Celebrating Over 50 Years of Mrs. Beasley

Do you remember Mrs. Beasley? She was the wonderfully wise doll snuggled by Buffy in the popular 1960s television show, “Family Affair.” Even though Mrs. Beasley was a doll, she was definitely one of the show’s central characters. You might remember her saying things like, “If you were a little smaller, I could rock you to sleep,” or “I do think you’re the nicest little friend I ever had.”

It’s been over 50 years since “Family Affair,” but Mrs. Beasley is still fresh in our hearts here at The Ashton-Drake Galleries.  So much so in fact, that we had to bring her back. We created an authentic reproduction of Mrs. Beasley, complete with all her charm and nostalgia. She has the same sweet blue eyes, square-framed glasses and beloved smile as she did on the show. And, she wears the same polka dot dress with yellow rick-rack trim, and of course, matching yellow shoes. We even took it a step further. If you pull the ring on her back, you’ll hear Mrs. Beasley relate one of 11 original phrases.

I used to pretend I was Buffy. I would have one of my older sisters fix my hair like hers and fix her own like Sissys. She then had to call me Buffy and let me call her Sissy.
Maybe it was because my childhood sweetheart, thought Buffy was So Cute! I wanted him to love me as much as he did Buffy. I only had two dolls when I was younger but they were Not Mrs. Beasley! I always wished I had one, back then! I would Love to have Mrs. Beasley now. I’m married to my childhood sweetheart.

This was the only doll I played with as a little girl. She was my best friend and my little sister being I was the baby of the family. It wasn’t that many years ago that I came across her at my parents house and sadly had to discard her due to the container she was stored in dry rotting and the elements got to her. Was a sad day for sure! I would love to have her again to share with my granddaughter and make new memories and share old ones together.

I got Mrs. Beasley for Christmas in 1968 when I was 8 years old. I was the happiest little girl in the world! I was the only kid in the neighborhood who had this wonderful, talking doll. Unfortunately, I left her at a friend’s house, and their family all came down with measles. My mother (who was a little paranoid about the spread of germs) wouldn’t let me have her back, out of fear that she was contaminated. So, Mrs Beasley disappeared, never to be seen again. Permanently scarred. 🙁

I had an original Mrs. Beasley doll. I remember when we were moving from Guam to California (my dad was in the Air Force). Mrs. Beasley rode on the plane with me and the stewardess even gave her a seat of her own next to me. She made sure Mrs. Beasley had her seatbelt on. I miss my Mrs. Beasley doll and would love to have one of these, just can’t afford it.

I remember when Jodi on Family Affair lost her and she was heartbroken. Yes her older sister and brother searched for her. The butler Mr. French even searched for her, but finally it was her Uncle that found her. You could really feel the heartbreak Jodi was going through come through the show on that episode. Yet, wasn’t that how most of us felt as little children when we misplaces our favorite toy.

I didn’t see my comment, so I’ll try posting again. My favorite memory is when Jodi on Family Affair misplaced her. Her big sister and brother helped look for her. Even Mr. French the butler looked for her, but it was finally her Uncle that found Mrs. Beasley and reunited Jodi to her. You could really feel Jodi’s heartbreak come through the screen on that episode. Yet, wasn’t that how we all were as little children when we misplaced our favorite toy.
